The days of the week for crew members are something very special. Once we start working we forget about the conventional names and we start using the names of the ports of call instead. It may sound funny but it is true.
Some conversations between two crew members can go like this:
- What’s the day tomorrow?
- Tomorrow is Belize.
- Is it? I thought it was Grand Cayman.
- No, that is in two days.
- You are right. Thanks.
Usually when we call home we have to do the “translation” for the people on land. We translate from “ports” to the “actual name” of the day. I found it very funny.
That’s it for today fellows… see you next… Miami, I guess!
